Single source file: `/home/ubuntu/charting-project/src/main.rs`\n(~1550 lines). Static frontend: `/home/ubuntu/charting-project/static/`\n(served by nginx directly; nginx proxies only `/api/` to 127.0.0.1:5101 with\n`proxy_read_timeout 30s`). Computed DBs live under\n`/home/ubuntu/charting-project/dbs/`.\n\nRelated: `tcharts-daily-indicator-overlay` skill for chart-UI work (daily\nlines, last-price legend, right-edge label queue — read before touching\n`static/index.html`; static edits go live without a restart, verify with\nmd5 served-vs-disk).\n\n## Architecture (REBUILT Aug 11, 2026 — incremental append + hot/cold tiers)\n\n- `#[tokio::main]` multi-thread. Boot: `fill_symbol()` for every symbol\n (~4s total — incremental), then `run_watcher()` every 60s via tokio::spawn.\n- **Incremental append**: `fill_symbol()` rebuilds bricks + indicators in\n memory from full history (fast, deterministic), then compares the DB tail\n (`MAX(brick_index)` + close). Match → INSERT only newer rows. Mismatch or\n empty table → DELETE + rebuild THAT INTERVAL only. Everything for one\n interval in ONE transaction. No global DELETEs — old rows never rewritten\n (raw 5-min candles are immutable, so bricks/snapshots are append-only).\n- **WAL mode + busy_timeout(15s)** on writer (fill_symbol) and readers\n (`open_computed`, `read_5min_db`) — API never blocks or sees partial data.\n- **Hot/cold tiers**: browser POSTs `/api/watch {\"symbol\":\"SBIN\"}` every 30s\n while the page is open. Watcher: HOT symbols (heartbeat < 3 min) recompute\n every cycle when the raw 5-min DB mtime is newer (>5s grace); COLD symbols\n only every 15th cycle. `ensure_fresh()` at the top of every computed-DB\n reader endpoint (`api_bricks/snapshots/daily_values/xover_events/\n daily_signal`) fills on-demand when stale (FILL_LOCK mutex + spawn_blocking)\n — first open of a cold symbol costs ~0.5-2s once, then it's hot.\n- **Incremental API**: `/api/bricks/<sym>?interval=5m&since=<brick_index>&\n limit=<N>` — `since` returns only newer bricks, `limit` returns last N;\n response includes `max_index`. Works on both the pre-computed path and the\n custom-brick_size on-the-fly path.\n- **Frontend**: initial load fetches `limit=max(2000, bars*2)` bricks (not\n full history — BANKNIFTY has 284k); then `refreshIncremental()` every 60s\n appends `since=<lastIdx>` + refreshes snapshot tail (limit=500) +\n daily-values ... Lots from finratio's OWN `symbols.yaml` (MCP-verified FUT lots,\n bi-monthly cron refresh). `mult` param (default 100) is display-only, same rules\n as ratio (never scales rsi/stoch).\n- Each mode has its OWN computed DB + brick size + indicator set. UI toggle\n Spread (A−B) / Sum (A+B).\n\n## THE OOM BUG (Aug 27, 2026) — negative spread → brick_size 0.01 → 9.3 GB crash loop\n\nThe whole story, because EVERY link in the chain is reusable knowledge:\n\n1. **nice_round() returns 0.01 for any non-positive input** (`if !(v > 0.0) { return 0.01 }`).\n SPREAD series can be NEGATIVE (ULTRACEMCO ₹585,850×50lot − ASHOKLEY ₹177.4×5000lot\n ≈ **−₹301,150**). So `nice_round(latest_close*0.01)` = `nice_round(−3011)` = **0.01**\n → 1-paisa Renko bricks on a ₹3-lakh series.\n2. `build_renko_bricks()` allocates EVERY brick in a Vec with no cap. Full history\n range ~₹274k / 0.01 = ~27 MILLION bricks in memory → **9.3 GB RSS** → kernel\n OOM-kills it.\n3. Boot path (\"recompute existing pairs\") + systemd `Restart=on-failure` (RestartSec=5)\n = crash loop: kill → restart → 9.3 GB again, every ~20s. The WHOLE VPS went into\n swap-thrash (load 29 on 6 cores, kswapd0 at 52% CPU) — user felt \"everything is slow,\n RAM 100%\". The OOM was global (no cgroup limit), so innocent services got squeezed.\n4. Diagnosis goldmine: `systemctl status finratio` prints\n `Consumed 14.79s CPU time, 9.3G memory peak` + `restart counter is at 16` —\n the smoking gun is IN THE UNIT STATUS, no dmesg spelunking needed.\n Kill the loop FIRST (`systemctl stop`) — box recovers instantly — then fix code.\n\n### Fixes applied (all in finratio-trade/src/main.rs + unit)\n- `pair_brick_size()`: compute from `latest_close.abs()` (SPREAD is legal-negative;\n brick size is a magnitude). ALSO its scale-floor check must use the abs base —\n `nice_round(neg*0.001)` is ALSO 0.01, so the first fix attempt alone re-accepted\n the poisoned stored value. Two places, same class of bug.\n- `build_renko_bricks()`: OOM guard — estimate `(hi−lo)/brick_size`; if > 2,000,000\n bricks, refuse BEFORE allocating (returns empty vec + `[renko] GUARD` log line).\n- `pair_brick_size()` meta floor: stored brick_size accepted on ... Static UI:\n`/home/ubuntu/ratio-trade/static/`; saved pairs: `saved_pairs.json`.\n\n## Entry marks — mark a candle as \"where I formed the pair\"\n\nUser wanted to mark the specific candle/date where they entered a pair and have it\npersist for long-term management. Implemented as marks attached to a SAVED pair name:\n\n- Backend (`src/main.rs`): `POST /api/marks {name,ts}` adds a mark (ts truncated to\n `YYYY-MM-DD`, idempotent per date), `POST /api/marks/delete {name,ts}` removes it.\n Marks stored on the saved-pair entry's `marks` array in `saved_pairs.json` (each\n `{ts, saved_at}`). `api_saved_upsert` PRESERVES existing marks when a pair is\n re-saved settings-only (does NOT wipe them). Both return 400 `\"pair not saved\"`\n if `name` isn't a saved pair — marking requires the user to Save first.\n Routes: `.route(\"/api/marks\", post(api_marks_add))`,\n `.route(\"/api/marks/delete\", post(api_marks_remove))`.\n- Frontend (`static/index.html`): floating `#mark-btn` positioned near the crosshair\n on mousemove, showing the hovered candle's date + \"Mark entry\" / \"Remove mark\"\n (red `.on` when already marked). `positionMarkBtn(e)` reuses `chartLayout` geometry\n (same bar-index math as the crosshair), clamps into plot area. Clicking calls\n `toggleMark(ts)` which POSTs add/delete then reloads pairs + re-renders. Marked\n candles render a gold ⚑ dot + date above the bar in `drawChart`, keyed by\n `marksMap[date]` built from the current pair's marks. `currentPairName` is set on\n `onSavedSelect` and after a successful `saveCurrentPair`. Works in BOTH renko and\n candle mode (bar timestamps → date).\n- Marks survive browser refresh and service restart (persisted in saved_pairs.json).\n Keyed by date, so multiple entry points over time all show together.\n- CSS added for `#mark-btn` (absolute, z-index 20, pointer-events auto so it's\n clickable over the `pointer-events:none` overlay canvas).\n\n## trade_symbol gotcha for a new ratio leg (HPCL)\n\nWhen a new symbol is added to `/var/www/openalgo-chart/api/symbols.yaml` for use in a\npair, the filler's `resolve_spot_symbol()` uses `trade_symbol` if present, else the\nyaml `name`. HPCL has no `trade_symbol` but its broker symbol is **HINDPETRO** — so\n`hpcl_5min.db` got 0 rows that day (every Tier-2 quote failed) and the HPCL-INFY pair\nwent stale on the HPCL leg only. Fix: add `trade_symbol: HINDPETRO` to the HPCL yaml\nentry; the filler reloads yaml each main-loop iteration (no restart needed). Confirm\nthe broker name via `search_instruments` MCP before relying on a display-name lookup.\nApplies to ANY chart ... [3167 chars total, truncated]

I have the complete picture now. Here's my diagnosis and plan: **Mark button (both your asks #1):** finratio's mark feature exists but has the exact bugs session 1 fixed on /ratio/ — the button repositions on every mousemove with `pointer-events:auto`, so moving onto it triggers the canvas `mouseleave` → crosshair freezes and the button can hide before you click. /ratio/ already has the fix (events on `#chart-wrap` + click-forwarding); finratio needs the same. **Axis distance + centering (ask #2):** finratio already has Y-wheel zoom (Aug 27), but no X-axis zoom and no drag-panning, so you can't spread candles apart or bring any region to center. I'll port the combined X+Y zoom pattern with drag-pan on both axes. Applying the patches now — first the data-slice changes so panels/crosshair follow the visible window:

Everything works — mark persists across reload, zero JS errors. But I spotted the "runs away" bug live: as the cursor moves ONTO the button, `positionMarkBtn` re-anchors it to the bar under the cursor (~25 bars to the right at this zoom), so the date under the click isn't the one you aimed at. Fix: freeze the button when the cursor is over it, and refresh its label right after toggling:

Question: This is a zoomed-in financial chart (DLF-TCS spread, Renko bricks). Check: 1) Are the bricks/candles visibly large and well-spaced (not tiny slivers)? 2) Is there a gold ⚑ mark dot with date label on a bar? 3) Do the Y-axis price labels look readable (Indian rupee values ~9.5M-12.8M)? 4) Any rendering glitches like overlapping labels, bricks outside the plot, or empty regions? [screenshot]

ASSISTANT (hermes, glm-5.3-flash)
The zoomed view works beautifully — big well-spaced bricks, readable axis, panels synced. But it exposed a real bug: the mark label draws on EVERY bar of the marked date, so a marked day with many renko bricks becomes a wall of overlapping "⚑ 2026-08-19" labels. Fix: draw the mark once per date (at the day's first bar) plus a full-height dashed line so the entry stays visible across the whole day. Fixing in both apps:

Built on finratio (and the mark-render fix\n+ported to ratio). Additions to the Aug 27 Y-wheel pattern:\n+\n+- **Combined X+Y wheel zoom** (`#chart-wrap`): X window = `xView {start, end}` — an\n+ INDEX window into `bars[]` (module global), not pixels. drawChart slices\n+ `bars.slice(lo,hi)` through it (clamped ≥10 bars, ≤barsLen); `chartLayout` gains\n+ `x0` (window start), `barsLen`, `dataLo/dataHi` (pre-pad extremes). Wheel zooms\n+ BOTH axes around the cursor: bar index under cursor = `L.x0 + (ox−padL)/barW`,\n+ anchor fraction preserved across span change. RSI/MACD panels repeat the same\n+ slice so they follow the window. Reset xView+yView on pair/mode/interval change.\n+- **Drag-pan both axes**: mousedown on plot seeds xView/yView from auto-fit, stores\n+ start0/end0/lo0/hi0; mousemove shifts window by `dxBars = dx/barW` and\n+ `dPrice = dy/chartH×span` (content follows cursor). Y rubber-band clamp =\n+ ±50% span past dataLo/dataHi. `window.mouseup` clears. `dragMovedFar` suppresses\n+ the trailing click after a real drag (else pan ending on the mark button marks\n+ a bar by accident).\n+- **Mark button FREEZE (fixes \"runs away\")**: `positionMarkBtn` re-anchors the\n+ button to the bar under the cursor on every mousemove — once the cursor is ON\n+ the button (barW small ⇒ button spans ~25 bars) it hops right each frame and the\n+ clicked date ≠ aimed date. Fix: if cursor is inside the button's rect, RETURN\n+ early (freeze position); after a toggle, `refreshMarkBtnLabel()` re-renders\n+ Mark entry ↔ Remove mark in place from `btn.dataset.ts`. Same fix on /ratio/.\n+- **Mark RENDER is per DATE, not per bar** (both apps): the old loop drew\n+ dot+label on EVERY bar whose date matched — on renko a marked day = a wall of\n+ overlapping \"⚑ 2026-08-19\" labels. Now: `drawnDates` set → ONE gold dashed\n+ full-height vertical line + dot + label at the day's FIRST visible bar. Line\n+ keeps the entry findable when zoomed/panned.\n+- E2E numbers (DLF-TCS spread, 15m renko, 2000 loaded bricks): auto 300 bars\n+ barW 4.4 → zoom 154 bars barW 8.6 (≈2× wider AND taller, anchored at cursor)\n+ → pan shifts x0 → dblclick restores exactly n=300, xView/yView null. Done. Both asks are built and verified live on https://tcharts.openalgo.theworkpc.com/finratio/ — hard-refresh the page first (Ctrl+Shift+R), the browser caches old HTML. **1. Mark candle — fixed and working** - The button had the exact "runs away / dead zone" bugs from the last /ratio/ session: it re-anchored to the bar under the cursor every mousemove, so moving onto it froze the crosshair and the clicked date wasn't the one you aimed at. Now it freezes under the cursor, wheel/drag/pan all work through it, the label flips Mark entry ↔ Remove mark in place after a click, and a click right after a drag doesn't accidentally mark. - Marks render ONCE per date now — a gold dashed full-height vertical line + one ⚑ label (previously every renko brick of that day drew its own label = a wall of text). The dashed line keeps the entry findable even when you zoom/pan away. - Same three fixes ported to /ratio/ so both apps behave identically. Marks still persist in saved_pairs.json across reloads (verified with reload test). **2. Y-axis distance + centering — yes, both axes now** - Mouse wheel over the chart zooms X and Y TOGETHER around your cursor: bricks/candles get wider AND the vertical spacing grows, anchored at the point under the cursor. This fixes the "A+B has very small candles" feel. - Click-drag pans both axes (content follows the cursor) — so you can drag any region of the graph plane to the center of the screen. Rubber-band stops just past the data so you can't slide into empty space. - Double-click = back to normal auto-fit. RSI/MACD panels, crosshair, and marks all follow the zoomed window. Zoom resets automatically when you change pair/mode/interval. Verified with playwright on DLF-TCS: 300 bars (4.4px each) → zoomed 154 bars (8.6px, ~2× taller) → panned → dblclick restored exactly; mark added/removed/kept across reload; zero JS errors; test pair cleaned up afterwards.
