Session 1 loaded. Quick recap of what it covered (Jul 28, 22 msgs): The four bot systems on bot.openalgo (from /home/ubuntu/bots/dashboard/bot_systems.yaml): 1. Renko Xover (Raw) — renko_vidya — SMA(2) × VIDYA(20) Renko crossover 2. Xover + Daily Trend Filter — daily_vidya — options only, zone-filtered via daily VIDYA anchor 3. Intraday Breakout (2-Loss Halt) — google_lipi_vidya — 2-brick Renko + LIPI/anchor boundaries 4. Xover Fut + Hedge — crossover_lipi_vidya — futures + OTM1 option hedge pair The main thread was comparing bots 2 and 4 from actual code (not docs): - Bot 2: SMA(2)×VIDYA(20) Renko crossover, entry only on in-memory boolean state flip between 60s polls. Options only. Zero local DB reads — everything via chart API, broker touched only at trade time. - Bot 4: Renko VIDYA(20) vs LIPI anchor. Despite the name, no edge detection — if flat and vidya > anchor, it enters immediately (state comparison, is_auto_entry bypasses crossover dedup). Reads SQLite directly (<symbol>_5min.db), computes Renko/VIDYA itself. Futures + hedge option pair. What do you want to do with this?

Covers data sourcing, backtest methodology, intraday whipsaw computation, and common pitfalls.\ntrigger: daily renko chart, VIDYA on daily, daily anchor, line in stone, renko vidya analysis, intraday whipsaw, ±0.5% skip zone\n---\n\n# Daily Renko + VIDYA Analysis Methodology\n\nAnalysis of daily Renko(2) charts with VIDYA-20 and SMA-2, using the \"Line in Stone\" approach for intraday signal validation.\n\n## Core Rules\n\n1. **DATA SOURCE**: Always use the **chart DB** (`/var/www/openalgo-chart/api/dbs/<symbol>_5min.db`) — this is NSE spot data, the same data `chart.openalgo.theworkpc.com` serves. Do NOT use the Morning Sniper DB (`/home/ubuntu/bots/morning_sniper/dbs/`) — that's NFO futures data with different prices. **The Daily VIDYA anchor must also read from the 5-min DB** (not daily aggregates from the chart API). Daily aggregates lose intraday reversals, producing different renko bricks (857 daily bricks vs 2714 5-min bricks for SBIN). The anchor now reads 5-min closes directly and builds renko with `Math.floor` start, matching the chart and bot exactly.\n\n2. **VIDYA IS LINE IN STONE**: Yesterday's VIDYA-20 value = today's FIXED horizontal anchor. It does NOT move during the trading day. When computing intraday whipsaws, VIDYA stays at yesterday's close-of-day value. The user WILL correct you if you show VIDYA as a rolling value.\n\n3. **SMA-2 is rolling**: SMA-2 on Renko bricks updates with each new 5-min brick. It crosses the fixed VIDYA line — that's the signal.\n\n4. **±0.5% Skip Zone**: If price is within ±0.5% of VIDYA anchor → HOLD existing position, DO NOT flip. This is the \"smoky day\" zone where SMA2 dances around VIDYA and whipsaws destroy profits.\n\n5. **15-pt Clearance Rule**: On intraday 5-min chart, only take entry when SMA2 is 15+ pts clear of VIDYA. This confirms direction on clear days and prevents premature entry on smoky days. Must be COMBINED with the ±0.5% zone rule.\n\n6. **Combined Rule for Carried Positions**:\n - Price > VIDYA + 0.5% AND SMA2 15+ pts above VIDYA → **GO LONG**\n - Price < VIDYA - 0.5% AND SMA2 15+ pts below VIDYA → **GO SHORT**\n - Price within VIDYA ± 0.5% → **HOLD existing position, no new entries, no flips**\n - On smoky days (price hugging VIDYA): **BOOK PROFIT, go flat, re-enter when direction is clear**\n\n7. **This is for OVERNIGHT positions, not intraday day-trading.** The user carries positions overnight. The analysis determines whether to hold, book out, or enter. Do NOT treat this as day-trading signals.\n\n## Backtest Results (INDIGO, Ja ... [31163 chars total, truncated]

Yes — the SHORT is correct, but it's important to know WHAT it's showing, because it's not the bot's position. Verified against the chart API (the bot's actual data source) and the live bot log: Why it shows SHORT: - Yesterday's (Jul 28) close: daily Renko SMA2 = 1013.0, daily VIDYA = 1013.93 → SMA2 below VIDYA → daily timeframe signal = SHORT. That's today's line-in-stone anchor row. - Today right now: price 1017.8, anchor 1013.93 → +0.38% → inside the ±0.5% zone (1008.9 – 1019.0) → IN_ZONE. - Dashboard rule: when IN_ZONE, the Signal column carries the anchor signal → displays SHORT. Internally consistent, working as designed. But the bot itself is LONG: - daily-vidya-bot@sbin is running and holding SBIN 25AUG26 1030 CE x750 (last poll P&L ≈ +₹975). - Live 5-min renko state: SMA 1017.0 ABOVE VIDYA 1013.11 (long side, no flip), zone=IN_ZONE → holding, no new entries. Correct behavior. - So the dash SHORT = yesterday's daily bias label carried through the zone. It is NOT the bot's position and NOT the intraday crossover state. If you read that column as "what am I positioned", it's misleading — that's a display-semantics thing, not a data error. One real issue I spotted while verifying: At 09:17 the bot's anchor flipped from (2026-07-28) to (2026-07-29) in the log. Cause: /api/daily-vidya now returns today's partial-day row as the last row (2 candles so far), and fetch_daily_vidya() in bot.py blindly takes rows[-1]. Right now the value is coincidentally identical (1013.93) so it's harmless — but as today's session moves the daily VIDYA, the "line in stone" will drift intraday, which contradicts ARCHITECTURE.md gate 2 (anchor date must be the last trading day BEFORE today). Root-cause fix is one line: in fetch_daily_vidya(), skip today's row — take the last row with date < today. Patching requires restarting daily-vidya-bot@sbin and @tcs (running), which resets the in-memory crossover boolean — so I'd apply it after 15:30 close, not now. Want me to do it this evening?

not understood - lost you - tell me first why it shows short
2026-07-29 09:40
ASSISTANT (hermes, k3)
Simple chain, 3 steps: 1. Yesterday (Jul 28) at market close, SBIN's daily SMA2 (1013.0) was below daily VIDYA (1013.93). SMA below VIDYA = SHORT. That got stored as today's signal. 2. The dashboard rule: if today's price is close to the VIDYA line (within ±0.5% — the "no-trade zone"), don't compute a new signal, just keep showing yesterday's signal. 3. Today's price (1017.8) is inside that zone (zone is 1008.9 to 1019.0). So the dashboard keeps showing yesterday's label: SHORT. That's it. SHORT is yesterday's signal, carried forward because price hasn't moved far enough away from the line to flip it.

USER (hermes, k3)
got it then nesxt point
2026-07-29 09:47
ASSISTANT (hermes, k3)
Next point: the dashboard signal and your bot's position are two different things. The dashboard's SHORT is just a label — yesterday's daily signal carried forward. Your actual SBIN bot is LONG right now. It is holding a CALL option (SBIN 1030 CE, 750 qty, bought earlier), up about ₹975 at last check. It entered LONG before today, and since price is in the no-trade zone, the rule says: hold whatever you have, do nothing new. So: dashboard says SHORT, bot holds LONG. Both are "correct" — they follow different rules. The dashboard shows the daily trend signal. The bot only flips its position when there's a fresh crossover AND price is outside the zone. Neither has happened today, so it sits tight with its LONG. Is that the behavior you expected, or did you expect the bot to already be SHORT (put) because the dashboard says SHORT?
2026-07-29 09:47
USER (hermes, k3)
no but the real issue you spotted
2026-07-29 09:49
ASSISTANT (hermes, k3)
The real issue: the "line in stone" is not actually fixed today. The rule: today's VIDYA line should be YESTERDAY's closing value, frozen all day. It must never move during trading. What I saw in the bot's log: at 9:17 AM, the anchor the bot uses flipped from "Jul 28" to "Jul 29" — today. Meaning the bot is now using TODAY's live, still-forming VIDYA value as the "fixed" line. Why it happens: the chart API returns one VIDYA value per day, including a row for today (computed from today's few candles so far). The bot's code just grabs the last row — which is now today's row. Nobody told it to skip today. Why it hasn't hurt yet: by luck, today's VIDYA value so far (1013.93) is exactly the same as yesterday's, because this morning's small move didn't shift it. So the line is at the right place by coincidence. Why it will hurt: as today's trading goes on, today's VIDYA will start moving. The "fixed" line will creep during the day — the exact thing the whole line-in-stone design exists to prevent. The bot could then take entries against a moving anchor. Fix is small: one line in bot.py — when picking the anchor row, skip today's date, take the last row BEFORE today. I'll patch it after 3:30 close and restart the two running daily-vidya bots (sbin, tcs). Want me to go ahead this evening?

You're half right, and the numbers show exactly which half: What you got right: today's row barely moves. Right now it equals yesterday's value to 4 decimal places (1013.9321 vs 1013.9307 — drift of 0.0014). VIDYA is so slow (period 20, CMO-damped) that a morning's bricks barely nudge it. So in practice the line behaves like stone. That's why it looks like it's following yesterday. What's actually happening in the code: today's row IS live — the API builds renko bricks including today's candles and reports VIDYA at today's last brick. It flipped to "Jul 29" at 9:17 because that's when today's first candle landed. It's not frozen; it's just very slow. Does the drift ever matter? I simulated the rest of today to quantify: - SBIN grinds UP 12 pts to 1030 by close → "anchor" creeps from 1013.93 to 1016.21 (+2.3 pts) - SBIN grinds DOWN 12 pts to 1006 → creeps to 1013.43 (−0.5 pts) So on a strong trend day the "fixed" line can move ~2 pts against a zone that's ±5 pts wide. Not catastrophic, but near a zone edge it can flip a CLEAR_LONG to IN_ZONE or vice versa using a line that wasn't yesterday's close. My take: it's a small real deviation, not an urgent bug. The one-line fix (bot skips today's row, takes the last row before today) makes it match the design exactly. I'll apply it after close — low risk either way. Go ahead?

Neither. If INDIGO is IN_ZONE when you press it (START → Order Now), the code does nothing — no call, no put, no order. The exact code path in bot.py check_and_trade(): 1. Order Now makes the first poll "actionable" — it builds a signal. Direction comes from the live SMA vs VIDYA state: SMA above VIDYA → CALL, SMA below → PUT. (Line 625.) 2. Then the ZONE GATE hits (line 681): zone == IN_ZONE → blocked. The bot logs "⛔ ... BLOCKED — price IN ZONE. Holding, no entry." and just goes back to monitoring. From then on it only acts on fresh crossovers. So the zone gate kills the trade before any option is chosen. The "which option" question never gets answered. One thing to flag though: INDIGO is not in zone right now. Live values: price 5230, anchor 5262.0, zone 5235.7–5288.4. Price is below the zone low → CLEAR SHORT (−0.59%, just barely past the −0.5% edge). And SMA (5231) is below VIDYA (5240.5). So if you pressed it NOW: gates pass (CLEAR_SHORT + SMA below VIDYA) → it would BUY A PUT, 1 lot OTM1, immediately. It's sitting right on the zone edge — a 5-pt uptick in price puts it back IN_ZONE. If you want the PUT, now works. If you expected "in zone = nothing", be aware it already crossed out.

Yes — computed today at 3:45 PM, clean run. The daily-vidya-anchor cron (15:45 Mon–Fri) ran today at 15:45:20, status ok. ULTRACEMCO had a complete day (75 candles, 09:15–15:25), so the anchor is genuine full-day data. ULTRACEMCO level for tomorrow (Jul 30): - LIPI line (VIDYA anchor): 11,999.67 - No-trade zone: 11,939.7 – 12,059.7 (±0.5%) - Closing signal: SHORT (SMA2 11,987 closed below VIDYA 11,999.67; renko close 11,986) Both sources agree: the stored anchor DB says 11,999.67 and the chart API (what the bot actually reads) also shows Jul 29 = 11,999.67. No discrepancy. One reminder from this morning's discussion: tomorrow at ~9:17, when the first candle lands, the bot's anchor will flip to Jul 30's live row and start its slow drift again. The one-line fix (skip today's row) is still pending — want me to apply it now? Market is closed, safe time to restart the bots.

Sure, step by step: The rule (line in stone): tomorrow's VIDYA line = today's closing value, frozen. For tomorrow that's 11,999.67-style numbers — computed at 3:45 PM, done, never moves again during tomorrow's trading. How the bot gets the line: every 60 seconds it asks the chart API "give me the daily VIDYA list" and takes the LAST row. Whatever date is on that last row, that's the anchor it uses. What goes wrong: the chart API's list includes a row for the current day, calculated from whatever candles exist so far. So tomorrow: - 9:15 AM, market opens, no candles yet → last row = Jul 29 → bot uses 11,999.67. Correct. - ~9:17 AM, first candle lands → the list now has a NEW last row: Jul 30, calculated from 1-2 candles → bot switches to THAT as its "fixed" line. - Rest of the day → that Jul 30 row keeps getting recalculated as more candles come in. The line creeps. So from 9:17 onwards the bot is not using "today's close frozen" — it's using "right now, live". We measured it: the creep is slow, about 2 points on a strong trend day. Small, but the line is supposed to be stone. The fix: in the bot's code, when it picks the last row, skip any row dated today — always take the last row from a PREVIOUS day. One line change. Then the bot uses 11,999.67 (or SBIN's 1,013.93) all day tomorrow, no creep. Needs a restart of the running daily-vidya bots (sbin, tcs), which is safe to do now while the market is closed. Apply it?

Today's actual numbers, start vs end, for the line the bot used: SBIN (quiet day): - Frozen line should have been: 1013.93 all day - Bot's line at 9:15 start: 1013.93 - Bot's line at close: 1013.97 - Creep: +0.04 — harmless, exactly the "by luck it matched" situation from this morning. ULTRACEMCO (big trend day): - Frozen line should have been: 11,961.30 all day (Jul 28 close) - Bot's line at 9:15 start: 11,963.44 - During the day it wandered: peaked at 12,071.61 around 9:30, sagged to ~11,992 by 13:45 - Bot's line at close: 11,999.67 - Creep: +38.4 pts away from the stone line. Total wander range: 108 pts. That 38-pt creep is not academic — the no-trade zone for ULTRACEMCO is ±60 pts wide. The "fixed" line moved more than half the zone width today. Any zone/CLEAR decision the bot made after 9:17 was measured against a line that wasn't the line in stone. So today gave us both cases: SBIN shows why it looks fine on quiet days, ULTRACEMCO shows why it isn't fine on the days that matter. Same one-line fix covers it: bot takes the last row dated BEFORE today, so tomorrow it holds 11,999.67 / 1013.93-style frozen values all day. Apply it now and restart the two running bots (sbin, tcs)?

2026-07-29 17:35

The Daily VIDYA bot — system 2 of the 4 (Xover + Daily Trend Filter, "line in stone"). - Code: /home/ubuntu/bots/daily_vidya_bot/bot.py — function fetch_daily_vidya() takes the last row of /api/daily-vidya/<SYM>, which is today's live row after ~9:17 - Services: daily-vidya-bot@<symbol> — currently running: sbin and tcs (the other 11 symbols are stopped) - It's the only one of the 4 systems with this issue, because it's the only one that uses the daily anchor at all. Bot 1 (renko) has no zone filter, bot 4 computes its own LIPI anchor from the DB directly, bot 3 is intraday. The SBIN bot we looked at this morning (log showed anchor flip to 2026-07-29 at 9:17) is one instance of it. Fix goes in this one file, then restart sbin + tcs.

so you are saying that line in stone is actually moving throughout the day and the signal then is wrong
2026-07-29 17:37
ASSISTANT (hermes, k3)
Yes on the first, with a precise split on the second: What's wrong: the line. After 9:17, the bot's "stone" line is live and creeps. Today it moved +38 pts on ULTRACEMCO, +0.04 on SBIN. What that makes wrong: only the ZONE decisions. The bot asks "is price clear of the line by ±0.5%?" — with a moving line, that answer can be wrong near zone edges. Wrongly blocked entries, or wrongly allowed entries, or wrong CALL/PUT direction enforcement. The crossover signal itself (SMA crossing VIDYA) is unaffected — that comes from a different endpoint and doesn't use the anchor. One nuance worth knowing: the DASHBOARD stayed correct all day. It reads the frozen stored anchor (11,961.30 for ULTRACEMCO) from the anchor DB. Only the BOT's internal line drifted. So on a day like today, the dashboard and the bot can disagree about the zone — dashboard right, bot wrong. Actual damage today: none. SBIN's creep was 0.04 pts and it was IN_ZONE all day regardless. ULTRACEMCO drifted 38 pts but its bot isn't running — only sbin and tcs are. So it's a live defect, not today's loss. But tomorrow ULTRACEMCO-type days will come for symbols whose bots ARE running, so it's worth the one-line fix now.
